Description of the article « PVA - Polyvinyl Alcohol »
Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA, sometimes called PVOH) is a water-soluble polymer commonly used in adhesives, paints, sealants, coatings, fabrics, plastics, etc.
PVA is soluble in hot and cold water. The typical solution would be prepared as follows:
The powder is added slowly to cold water to prevent it from setting, as it becomes sticky and its tendency to set increases with temperature. In some cases, water at a lower temperature than room temperature can be used to reduce this risk.
Once the powder is fully dispersed, the mixture is heated to the temperature at which the polymer is dissolved (90-98°C - depending on the type of PVA used).
Mixing continues at this temperature until the PVA is completely dissolved. Depending on the quality of the material and the efficiency of the stirring system, this may take some time.
Pore sealer, polyvinyl alcohol. Depending on the porosity of the substrate, 1, 2 or 3 coats should be applied.
