Description of the article « Brass powder »
Brass powder is a filler used to impart colour, brightness and weight to resins, as well as improving thermal conductivity and temperature resistance.
When used for reproduction of parts, it increases the density of the resins and allows for a realistic result both visually and in terms of feel. The weight of the object may also be comparable to that of the original part, depending on the degree of saturation of the resin with brass powder.
Brass powder can be used with polyester or epoxy resins.
Decorative aspect : after polishing, these powders give a metallic appearance.
USE :
- For small items, the casting resin should be filled at a ratio of generally 2 to 5 parts brass powder to 1 part resin, by weight, and poured directly into the mould.
- For larger items or items where weight is to be minimised, the following procedure should be followed:
1/ Charge a colourless gel-coat moulding, polyester or epoxy, at a ratio of 2 to 5 parts to 1.
2/ Apply a layer of approximately 0.5mm in the mould.
3/ After curing, you can either make a fibreglass laminate to obtain a hollow and light part, or pour a slow-setting resin to increase the weight of the part.
4/ After complete polymerisation, remove from the mould, polish with fine or very fine steel wool, and finish with polishing paste. A layer of wax will provide good protection against oxidation.
SAFETY :
P210: Keep away from heat, hot surfaces, sparks, open flames and other sources of ignition. Do not smoke.
P273: Avoid release to the environment.
P501: Dispose of contents/container in a waste disposal facility.
